Mmmmmm….. looks wonderful!! Warm weather sounds kinda good right now. It’s been chilly here — fall is definitely fallen. Florida always looks so beautiful in pictures.

Thanks for stopping by my Turning 40 blog. I am SO EXCITED about starting college!! Woohoo!!

And now its time for you to get your degree. I remember when you were taking bunches of classes at PCC. I figured you’d have your degree loooong before me.

Love ya, woman! Miss you very, very much!

Did you go to Miami Ink? ;) That looks beautiful! I would love to visit there some time. I’ve only been to the airport on my way to Jamaica.

When we were in London there were these restaurants with little paellas they were so cute! And looked really yummy! That’s the one kind of restaurant I wanted to go to that we never got to.

Glad you updated!!! I love to see the world through your view!

I had no idea that Florida was as cool as Brazil. I still think Brazil would win. But hey, I haven’t been to either one. :) thanks for sharing the pic’s.

Beautiful pics. Isn’t God awesome to allow you a feeling of being back in your native country? I continue to pray for you and your family.

    It looks lovely and sunny.
I’m enjoying the cold weather arriving in Sheffield. The temperature has been higher than average for ages. Now I get to wear my scarf, hat and boots! Yeah!

    thinking of you!!

You and Alex travel to the coolest places! Los Angeles may indeed “inhale the nations” but you guys sail the world on the cheerily whistled wind of God!

On the other hand, I’m enjoying a beautiful pre-sunset golden-orange smog aura right now, as the sun settles below the apartment roofs and powerlines… okay, I guess Miami has me beat after all. ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930’s 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because……

    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound,no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms……….WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
    lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,

made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

    HOW TO
    DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

    CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?!

  • obahsomah obahsomah

Erica…I loved that! Reading it made me smile and a little sad that my kids just won’t know that world. There’s will be different from mine or my parents or grandparents…but maybe since we all remember we can try to give them a taste of it.

I loved Miami, and right now in a cold and wet Edinburgh I would love to be there!

    Hi Niza

Adel is doing great. She just returned from Spain and Portugal where she presented a paper on accounting education.

Thanks for keeping in touch. She has not caught onto blogging though. I hope she will sooner rather than later. She is also just finishing her masters degree in tersiary education. She is pretty pleased that it is over and done with.

Here is her e-mail adress if you find time to send her an e-mail:

    adel.duplessis@buseco.monash.edu

Take care and be sure to convince Alex that you guys need to come visit us some time next year.

WOW!!! That looks pretty much AMAZING!!! One of my best friends grew up in Miami but had to move to South Dakota early on in life. I couldn’t imagine leaving such a BEAUTIFUL place like that (for south dakota, none the less!!!)

I stopped in Mosaic Portland a few times since being up here in Oregon, but I’m on the complete opposite side of town. I found a community that a good majority of my coworkers go to- even my boss plays in the worship band! Go figure, ya work at starbucks- you’re going to run into Christians ;) Espically where I’m at in Oregon.

I miss seeing you at MRC, heck… i miss MRC!!! But, keep updating when you can- it’s always fun to read blogs when it’s raining cats and dogs up here! =)

    Stay safe

Hey Niza…you haven’t posted for AGES!

See you in a few weeks.

    I second that motion… POST SOMETHING! :)

I’m so worried. Where have you gone? Are you okay? Are you trapped under something heavy and can’t get to the computer? Should we send a posse out for you??

Please-please-please dear Niza, give a sign that you’re okay!! We miss you out here….
